Seen the mummies but don't know their secrets? Eager to explore the depths of one of the British Museum's popular collections? Join us for a guided tour of the iconic Egyptian section at the British Museum.
The ancient Egyptian society is one that continues to fascinate, long after its conquest by the Roman Empire more than 2000 years ago. After Champollion's decipherment of the hieroglyphs in 1822, the Egyptian language, its material culture and its monumental pharaonic architecture have been increasingly popular worldwide.
In this hour long guided tour, we will explore the Egyptian Gallery of the British Museum through the lenses of Egyptologist, Yağmur Koyuncu. You will hear about the lives of well-known kings, such as Ramesses II, Thutmoses III and Tutankhamun, and learn about the activities and beliefs of ancient Egyptians. The tour will explore heritage ethics and question current museological practices. By the end, you will have a deeper understanding of the history of Egypt and its important figures.
Children are welcome (Ancient Egypt is on the year 3 history curriculum), as long as they are accompanied by a responsible grown-up.
Due to space restrictions, we will visit in groups of 8. Please indicate your preference (if there is one) on the registration form.
