We have the pleasure of inviting you to a reception and dinner hosted by the Ambassador of Belgium, HE Mr Guy Trouveroy and Mrs Trouveroy at their Residence in support of a unique project to commemorate the work of two British women who ran a first aid post in Belgium during WWI.
In 2009, writer Diane Atkinson published the book “Elsie & Mairi Go To War”, telling the story of two British women who ran a First Aid post at the front in Belgium (Pervyse, near Diksmuide) during WWI. She was so fascinated by the story that she started to raise money for a statue to commemorate these extraordinary women. The statue in bronze has been designed by Belgian sculptur Josiane Vanhoutte and will be unveiled in November. Together with Fleming Stefaan Vandenbussche she already raised 82 000 euro, all private money, and needs an extra push to finish the project.
The fundraising dinner planned on Thursday 9 October 2014 will support this project. It will be held in the Residence’s beautiful dining room and be preceded by a reception on the first floor and a short presentation about the project by Diane Atkinson. Guests are welcome at 6.30pm.
The author will provide a complimentary copy of her book “Elsie & Mairi Go To War” for each guest.
Tickets cost £55 per person. The VCL will add a further £20 per person, bringing the contribution to the project to £75 per person.
The number of guests is limited making this evening rather special and exclusive.
To register, please click the button on the left of this webpage. We recommend responding soon (before 18 September) to avoid disappointment.
The Ambassador’s office will then send an official invitation card in writing to the confirmed participants.
