Seen the mummies but don't know their secrets? Eager to explore the depths of one of the British Museum's popular collections?  Join us for a guided tour of the iconic Egyptian section at the British Museum.

The ancient Egyptian society is one that continues to fascinate, long after its conquest by the Roman Empire more than 2000 years ago. After Champollion's decipherment of the hieroglyphs in 1822, the Egyptian language, its material culture and its monumental pharaonic architecture have been increasingly popular worldwide.

In this hour long guided tour, we will explore the origin of archaeology and its earliest days, all the way back to Ramses II.

Children are welcome (Ancient Egypt is on the year 3 history curriculum), as long as they are accompanied by a responsible grown-up.

When: Sunday 30 November, meeting at 13.45 for a 14.00 prompt start

Meeting point: Montague Place entrance at the back of the museum (NOT Great Russell Street main entrance)
